When it comes to simple stompbox pedals, one of our favorite delays is the Boss DD-7 Digital Delay. If it weren’t for the bright, clear screen that is on the interface, none of this would be as easy as it is. You can then use the various banks to save your sound so that you can recall it at a later time. There are tons of different parameters that you can use to modify each of these sounds as well, perfect for getting your delay just right. Each of the delays is 100% customizable and completely authentic. You can use the main knob to select a variety of different delay types, including tape, shimmer, Tera Echo, dual, SFX, slow, and much, much more.
#BEST SIMPLE DELAY PEDAL FULL#
Though it might look a bit confusing right off the bat thanks to the full range of parameters, it is relatively simple to use.īoss has done a fantastic job at laying everything out in a way that makes the pedal more intuitive than many simpler delays on the market. Somewhat like the Strymon Timeline, it offers a variety of different delay modes, each of which is high-quality. It is a multi-mode delay pedal that incredibly customizable and versatile. I'm not into sugar-coating my opinions at all, don't see any point in it, so I'll just be honest & say that the DigiDelay didn't do a whole lot for me in terms of both pure tone, or reliability. The Boss DD-500 is the flagship delay pedal from the Boss company. recently got a pretty nasty review from someone whose ears I trust, so nix on that one for now. Tap tempo, reverse, & some other bells & whistles. I've been keeping an eye on the newer Danelectro Wasabi delay (about $130.00). Dan-Echo is in this price range as well, & offers a few options, including speed switch & high cut control. One of the secrets to the EM-5 tone is that there's actually a bit of distortion dialed in to the repeats. It hung with my Maxon AD-900 pretty well, which is saying a lot. This pedal has achieved cult status for a reason - of all the digitals I've played, this one passed the above test better than any other I've played, which is a bunch. I just scored an Ibanez EM-5 Echo Machine on HC for 60 bucks, which arrived yesterday. Usually not that big a deal with a clean tone, but nasty as hell with some dirt.

Telltale signs of a digital are the opposite - stark attack, & abrupt, fake-sounding tail. A good analog delay will have the following - a soft, round attack on the initial repeat a natural, gradual tail on the decay, much like the way echoes sound in a canyon. Strike one chord sharply, & listen to the repeats. If you seek 'analog-voiced' digital delay - here's a simple test I do to check the integrity of delay repeats: I would suggest that you test the waters with an inexpensive model. If you do a search here, you'll see that folks' opinions & experiences about delays are all over the map.

I've also heard the danecho is pretty good too but I haven't tried it. Maxon ad-900 -(analog dealy that is very good but very expensive)Ī used analog delay like the boss dm-2 or ibanez ad9 (they are all over ebay) Line 6 green delay model pedal (expensive but versitile)

I would recomend one of the following instead: But if all you need is a little slap back and you are on a budjet, it is a great choice. I also have a danelectro BLT which for $30 does a decent slapback effect. I now also plug it into an voodoo lab pedal power supply. However, this was only done to salvage a pedal I already owned.
#BEST SIMPLE DELAY PEDAL MODS#
I think these mods are a must for anyone who owns one of these pedlas. Mine has since been upgraded with a couple of analogman's mod's which has drastically improved the pedal. My dd-5 was bright and brittle and went through batteries quickly (just a few hours). I would recomend stearing clear of both that and the dd-6 and dd-3.
